An innovative plant is to be constructed in Alabama for processing over 5,000 tons of waste annually. The plant was designed by CFM Group, LLC of Tuscaloosa, AL to provide the greatest environmental benefit to the local community. Overall objectives were: Redirect 5,900 tons annually of waste from area landfills and recycle into a beneficial saleable product; Provide ancillary services making the plant environmentally sustainable; Reduce odors within the community by removing waste from area plants and processing quickly; Have no process wastewater discharges; Use to the maximum extent possible renewable energy sources; Provide beneficial gray water reuse; Develop the plant site to provide adjacent habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife with an educational and research component with the University of Alabama.
