Evaluation of the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model version 5.0 beta release

The Community Multiscale Air Quality is a state of the science air quality model used for research and regulatory applications. The CMAQ model code is maintained by the U.S. EPA/AM AD. AMAD routinely releases new versions of the CMAQ model that incorporate code updates, bug fixes, science updates and added capabilities. The last release of the CMAQ model was in version 4.7.1 in 2009. Since that time, the AMAD has been working on a number of updates for the next release (v5.0) of the model in 2011. Accompanying each release of the model is a comprehensive evaluation of the model performance against both the previous version of the model and observed values.2'3'4 The beta release allows the CMAQ modeling community to provide additional updates to the model before the final release.
