A Peek into the Future: Overview of Appendix W Changes and their Significance

This extended abstract presents information on two aspects of the proposed modifications to the GAQM: the introduction of low wind options in AERMET and AERMOD, and the proposal to use WRF/MMIF to develop representative meteorological data for short-range modeling with AERMOD. A new analysis of the Tracy model evaluation data set is presented, and the results of this analysis support the conclusions of other investigators that the low wind options result in generally less conservative and more accurate model predictions. A qualitative evaluation of the application of WRF/MMIF to developing wind profiles for short-scale modeling was conducted, and the results show that with appropriate grid spacing WRF/MMIF can produce meteorological profiles suitable for use in short-range modeling studies with AERMOD.
