The optical techniques MEFTIR and MWDOAS have proven to be useful tools in operations like plume mapping and leak search, flux quantification using tracer gas releases or combined with Solar Occultation Flux (SOF) measurements. Actual field data on VOC emissions from the petrochemical sector is valuable as input to chemical modeling and for validation of standard inventories. Emission factors for a variety of standard operations have been derived, such as tank loading operations and product discharge to trucks and ships, with and without vapor recovery units in place. Continued validation work of MEFTIR, MWDOAS and SOF at various sources, comparing results with other available techniques, are planned for 2015 in California.
