This paper considers the recent and potential future developments of damage stability regulations with respect to safe ship design, development and operation and hence investigating how such regulations and techniques can be utilised in developing compliant design solutions. Arguments regarding the application of such regulations and techniques will be presented based on the view points of designers, regulators and educators.
