3.1 Unique Reconfigurable Display Specifications and Applications for Commercial Vehicles

Cockpits for automobiles are presenting more and more information to the driver. Information content includes navigation, entertainment, and critical vehicle parameters. To accommodate this increase in information content, the trend in the automotive market is to utilize reconfigurable displays in the cluster and center stack areas of the dashboard. Commercial vehicles are also presenting a growing amount of information to the driver/operator. Similar to the automotive market, commercial vehicles are beginning to implement reconfigurable displays to address this challenge. Commercial vehicle displays provide similar yet different design challenges than automotive displays. Reconfigurable display specifications for commercial vehicles will be compared against automotive display requirements. Differences for commercial vehicles will be highlighted. Reconfigurable display applications unique to the commercial vehicle market will be described including a PACCAR pfoprietary navigation and infotainment display system for Class 5-8 trucks.
