Hatching is always a hard-solving problem in any CAD system. The key metric to value an algorithm is that if it has the property of high robustness. An improved algorithm is described in this paper, in which the drawing is mapped to a virtual image space, by fast flooding in the virtual image space from the seed point, the minimum topological area of the hatch is thereby easily defined by no need of complex calculation and unstable finding the boundary of the area. This algorithm has been successfully implemented in Doctor-CAD System. After a quite long time practical use, the algorithm is proved to be novel, efficient and highly robust.
