Time-Domain Channel Estimation for MIMO-OFDM System

In this paper two time-domain channel estimators, DFT-Based and DCT-Based, are compared for MIMO-OFDM system. In DFT-Based Channel Estimator, time-domain characteristics of the multi-path channel are exploited to discard Channel Impulse Response (CIR) samples having energy less than noise. But for fast-fading frequency-selective channel, where multipath delays are non-integer sample-spaced, UCT approach is used to avoid leakage effect. These estimators are evaluated based on different number of channel taps and channel filter length in terms of CIR samples. Monte Carlo Simulations are used to optimize these estimators for 2 x 2 MIMO system, which reveal that that for less Mean Square Error and small computational time, less number of channel taps for a channel of small filter length should be used for communication system.
