Fall-induced injury of the elderly results in emergency situation. If there is not a quick emergency response in case of the fall unconscious and unable to move the body of the elderly, they can die. We proposed and implemented an emergency monitoring system based on a sensor node for fall detection of the elderly, which consists of TI CC2530 chip and three types of sensors such as electrocardiogram, acceleromeler, and gyroscope. The fall detection algorithm gives the time interval to detect each parameter using acceleration, angular velocity, and angle. Also, after detecting the fall of the elderly, an emergency detection algorithm, by monitoring the movements of the fallen elderly, is proposed. The results show that the fall detection algorithm can discriminate various types of falls from activities of daily living (ADL). Also, when the fall situation is detected, the emergency detection sensitivity of 100% is measured.
