E-ZMAC: An Energy-Balanced MAC Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks Based on Z-MAC

摘要

Wireless sensor networks have strict requirements of energy conservation and energy balance. The node with the maximum residual energy is chosen to forward data with higher priority, balancing energy consumption of the whole network and prolong network lifetime. Based on the idea, we proposed E-ZMAC protocol, improving Z-MAC protocol in two aspects. First, let the node with the maximum residual energy be assigned two consecutive time slots. Secondly, the node with the maximum residual energy access the channel with a higher priority considering energy factor when backoff. Simulation results show that, the improved protocol achieves long network lifetime than Z-MAC protocol, while maintaining comparable throughput performance with Z-MAC protocol.
