There is a broad interest in integrating nanoscale reinforcements such as carbon nanotubes infiber composites because they can penetrate matrix-rich regions due to their nanoscale size.Considerable effort has focused on the dispersion of carbon nanotubes in a polymer matrix.However, the high viscosity of nanotube/polymer dispersions places limits on the volumefraction of nanotubes in nanotube/fiber hybrid composites. To overcome this difficulty, a sizingapproach is utilized in this research to infiltrate the fiber preform with a low viscosity solution,followed by venting using a permeable membrane and subsequent resin infusion to form thenanotube/fiber hybrid composite.
