In this study, decolorization and chemical oxygen demand (COD) reduction of coking wastewater by electrocoagulation process has been investigated. Effects of operating parameters, such as current density, pH of solution, electrolyte concentration and hydraulic residence time (HRT) on decolorization by continuous electrocoagulation were further studied in order to optimize process performance. The UV-Vis spectrum data supported the decolorization and degradation of organic pollutants of coking wastewater. These results showed great potential of electrocoagulation process as a decolorization treatment of coking wastewater, and up to 91 % of color removal efficiency was obtained at 25°C after 80min reaction with a current density of 30mA ·cm−2, a p H of 8.0, an electrode distance of 1.0cm, a supporting electrolyte concentration of 0.5g ·L−1.
