A novel algorithm for removing ‘liubai’ area in traditional Chinese painting images

Traditional Chinese painting is a unique art form and highly be regarded. Traditional Chinese painting consists of four parts: main body, seal, calligraphy and ‘liubai’. These four parts have many specific semantics. So the extraction of those parts is an urgent task. In this paper, a novel algorithm to remove ‘liubai’ area from the traditional Chinese painting image is proposed. The idea of this algorithm is based on the Top-down image segmentation method. Also consider the color and structural factors information in the traditional Chinese painting images. This algorithm can be divided into two phases, find the ‘liubai’ area''s color information and cover the whole image with the specific thesold. Experiments show that this method is effective.
