In this report an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is modeled and simulated. The objective is to investigate different search patterns for tactical use in operations with land and air units. Models developed are integrated into scenarios where one or several UAVs will perform reconnaissance missions over terrain. Scenarios are simulated with the simulation framework Flames. The focus has been on developing the aircraft model and the flight control system using Digital Datcom and methods from the literature. Reconnaissance is done with conventional search patterns using an optical sensor. Simulations will be used to evaluate requirements for effective search missions. Effectiveness is defined with a cost index in order to compare different scenario setups where sensor capacity and number of UAVs are varied. The result shows how the mission setup best is improved by adding sensor capacity and/or additional UAVs.
