Heat Flux Measurement on High Temperature Materials in Extreme Environments

This paper reports on the design and evaluation of twoheat flux sensors specifically made for operation in the harshestof thermal environments. The High Temperature Heat FluxSensor (HTHFS) and the Direct Write Heat Flux Sensor(DWHFS) are thermoelectric sensors which measure both heatflux and surface temperature and can therefore accuratelydescribe the actual net heat flux to any surface. Furthermore, byutilizing advanced fabrication techniques, the DWHFS can befabricated onto, or embedded within functional coatings, such asthermal barrier coatings. Results are presented whichdemonstrate the capabilities of the two sensors under varioustesting conditions.
