With the rapid expansion of wireless communication services, there has been considerable interest in miniaturized antennas. In recent years, there has been a growing research activity on many microstrip-line-fed printed slot antennas because of their favorable characteristics. In this paper, a novel technique is proposed to design a new miniaturized printed wide-slot antenna fed by a 50-Ω microstrip line. Impedance, radiation, and gain characteristics of this antenna are presented and discussed. The proposed antenna can be obtained by replacing the straight sides of the conventional square slot by the 1st, 2nd and 3rd iterations of Minskowski fractal curve. By etching the wide slot as fractal shapes, it''s found that using the 3rd iteration Minskowski fractal curve as the slot boundary resulted in 33.6% reduction in the antenna size compared to the conventional square slot antenna with directivity close to 4.41 dBi. Numerical simulations are carried out using CST Microwave Studio based on the finite integration time-domain technique.
