I have the great honor and pleasure to welcome you to the 2011 IEEE Radio and Wireless Week (RWW). If you notice the new logo for the RWW, you will see that RWW now encompasses five conferences. The Radio and Wireless Symposium that originated from RAWCON and the IEEE Topical Meeting on Silicon Monolithic Integrated Circuits in RF Systems (SiRF) that dates back to 1998 are two of the original conferences of the RWW. The MTT-S and the RWW has started three new conferences that compliment the RWS and SiRF and fill a void in the society's conference offerings. The first is the IEEE Topical Conference on RF/Microwave Power Amplifiers (PAWR). This conference is for authors that are conducting original research in power amplifier technology and it will be the society's first annual conference with a peer reviewed digest dedicated to the topic of power amplifiers, which is difficult to believe considering the many contributions that power amplifiers has made to almost every RF/Microwave system. The second new conference is the IEEE Topical Conference on Biomedical Wireless Technologies, Networks & Sensing Systems (BioWireless). Anyone that has attended a large, multidiscipline conference over the past five years has seen that this is the most exciting topic for RF engineers, certainly because of the great financial growth potential of wireless medical devices. The third new conference is the IEEE Topical Conference on Wireless Sensors and Sensor Networks (WiSNet), which utilizes technologies from RWS, PAWR, and SiRF to develop new applications related to BioWireless, consumer, commercial, and military markets.
