In traditional model of seismic response of arch dams, the effect of foundation radiation damping and inhomogeneous input of wave motion have not been taken into account. Basing on the principle of remote artificial boundary, with the application of the principle of local uncoordinated mesh and coordinate variable method to the infinite domain fluctuation, a new finite element computation method in time domain-gradual enlargement mesh method is proposed in this paper. With this method, the calculation quantity of remote artificial boundary can be greatly reduced, and the problems of boundary instability and large angle incidence. Through the dynamic response calculation of typical arch dam, and compared to traditional method, with the present method, the amplitude of principal tensile stress and principal compressive stress has decreased by 10% to 30% at most part of arch dam, and the inapplicability and practical value in project of this method had been proved.
