Power electronic driven applications are increasingly gaining in importance. To meet future requirements power electronic control algorithms should also be capable to handle non-linear and unknown loads in a very fast way by reduced current ripple and improved robustness. There are two basic principles of inverter control - direct and indirect current control. Up till now indirect current controller, e. g. by pulse width modulation (PWM) or space-vector modulation, are widespread in contrast to direct ones. However direct current controllers are very fast, robust and well suited to handle unknown and even non-linear loads. Therefore they seem to fit future needs. But one of their most significant disadvantages is that they are realized with analogous technology. Drift, temperature dependence affect them very strongly. In this paper a new high speed purely digital direct current controller is presented. It operates at 10MHz. It can fit the future needs, can handle non-linear loads and it can overcome the known disadvantages of analogous direct current controllers.
