AWA is in the process of developing updated PMP values for the state of Wyoming. The study began in late spring of 2011 and is approximately half completed as of the summer of 2012. Because Wyoming is such a diverse state topographically, is very data sparse, and has a climate with varies tremendous over small distances, extensive work must be completed to ensure accuracy and continuity with the results. Some of the major challenges remaining include completion of the required SPAS storm analyses, definition of transposition limits for individual storms, quantification of orographic effects using the OTF, defining the PMP design storm characteristics, and implementing the user interface for deriving PMP values for any point within the state.his study builds upon the previous and ongoing PMP work AWA whenever possible, specifically the statewide studies, including the state of Nebraska (2008), Arizona (in progress), and Ohio (in progress). The results of this study will replace the PMP values given in the four HMRs covering the state and provide for a consistent database for use by dams owners and regulators. In addition, the PMP values will be the result of updated data and technology, which will provide a storm based dataset and the highest reliability in resulting values. Further, because the regulators have been involved from the beginning, the understanding and comfort level with the development and implementation of the PMP will at its highest level. This will allow for appropriate use of the data and most importantly, informed and reliable decisions regarding dam safety where PMP is involved to be made with confidence.
