Agricultural-waste biomass is carbonized and chemically activated, intended for utilization as a template to tailor nano-structured adsorption materials for solid state atomic hydrogen storage systems. These natural materials exhibit well developed surface area and structural features which may provide preferential physisorption sites for molecular hydrogen gas. The production of silicon carbide nano-structures upon and within the biomass-carbon templates is attempted to provide preferential adsorption sites for atomic hydrogen vapor and potentially further strengthen the proposed adsorption bed structure without significantly reducing the specific surface area. Material characterization includes SEM, EDX, XRD, TEM and BET SSA analysis.
