As energy issues have attracted more and more attention, so has energy storage technology. Energy storage technology is quite crucial in dealing with this problem and has been a hot area of research. The flywheel is one of the most promising energy storage technologies because of its efficient and environmental character. Flywheels always work on the condition of extremely high speed rotation. The structure and mechanical property of a flywheel is often quite complicated. So it's very difficult to calculate the dynamic response process of the flywheel system during flywheel failure. Here, the explicit finite element analysis method is used to simulate the flywheel rotor-protective shell system. It is proven that explicit FEA is a valid tool to solve such problem.
