ON THE DYNAMIC RESPONSE^ AND FAILURE OF STIFFENED AND UNSTIFFENED CYLINDRICAL SHELLS UNDER AXIAL IMPACT

Time history of the expected values of stresses and radial displacements in imperfect, closely spaced, stiffened cylindrical shells subjected to axial impact is analyzed. The analysis is based on Donnell-type equations for the dynamics of stiffened (and unstiffened) cylindrical shells with assumed statistical distributions of the initial imperfections, leading to a statistical description of the response.
