ATV 'Jules Verne' Control Centre, from challenges to success

The year 2008 marked the beginning of a very fruitful period for European manned spaceflight activities conducted by the European Space Agency (ESA). After the berthing on the International Space Station (ISS) of Columbus laboratory on 11 February 2008, the successful mission of the ATV "Jules Verne" paved the way for human spaceflight from the ISS to future exploration activities. On behalf of ESA, CNES has been responsible of the ATV Control Centre (ATV-CC) development, of the operations preparation and eventually their execution. After a presentation of the Jules Verne mission and of its specificities, the paper exposes the encountered difficulties and the retained approach for the operations preparation and their qualification, which led to the success of this mission.
