The Launch and Early Operations Phase of the GALILEO satellites 5 and 6 was impacted by critical failures occurring nearly simultaneously, namely a major launcher injection failure and a failure of the solar array deployment on both spacecraft. This paper addresses the operational approach followed by the joint operations team from the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) and the Centre Natonal d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES) to identify, cope and recover from both failures.
