Radiation hardness test of Pr:LuAG and BSO scintillators

We measured radiation hardness of two kinds of newly developed inorganic scintillators, Pr:LuAG and BSO. The amounts of irradiation for our test were γ-rays up to 100 Gy and neutrons up to 1012 neutrons/cm2 fluence. These radiation doses are corresponding to SuperKEKB/Belle-II 10 years operation. For γ-rays, both Pr:LuAG and BSO scintillators showed reasonably good radiation hardness, (−11±3)% and (−6±3)%, respectively, for 100 Gy. For neutrons, at 1011 neutrons/cm2, light output degradation was −6% in both scintillators. At 1012 neutrons/cm2, BSO is still found to be robust, light output decrease is −8%, while Pr:LuAG shows −36% degradation.
