This study demonstrated that ultrasonic NDE cannot be used to elucidate the influence of damage in structural components, and it is therefore not appropriate to evaluate old full-scale wooden structures of historical constructions using this method. However, this remains a reliable NDE method that can be used on new components.When using the drill resistance values obtained via the RST method to predict the properties of full-scale new construction materials, taking the resistance values of four different drillings by 90° radial and tangential drilling resulted in a low coefficient of determination R2 in the analysis with E_(b-new), showing a low correlation or no correlation. With 45° radial drilling, the estimated R~2 of E_(b-new) from the regression analysis with Rst_(45r) was 0.2627 (neutral correlation, r = 0.513).
