Since 1924, Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) has been afforested in Korea. Now the gross area of Japanese cedar forests is thirty thousand hectares and Japanese cedar become representative species of trees in Jeju-do, Korea. Because of these, Korean Japanese cedar is expected to raise the output. But there are no design values or study to be used structural member. So they are only used for cheap goods like a fishing box, wood pillar etc. Japanese cedar is light density, so relatively it has low mechanical properties. Therefore Japanese cedar will be evaluated exactly to be used structural member. Especially, a connection consists of two or more members joined with mechanical fastener and provides continuity to the members and strength and stability to the system. To do these, it is considered one of most important, but rarely studied. The objective of this research was to define the effect of MC on the dowel-bearing strength of Japanese cedar and evaluate load capacity of single drift-pin joint for steel-to-timber with a steel centre member to be used structural member. And evaluated load carrying capacity of joint was compared with joint load capacity which was predicted by EYM.
