The Infrasound Network (ISNet) as an 88D Adjunct Tornado Detection Tool: The Status of Infrasonic Tornado Detection

After a background of operation through threeyears (2003-2005), the purpose of this paper is tosummarize the status of our efforts to evaluate thepotential of NOAA's Infrasonic Detection Network(ISNet) for tornado detection and warning. Thenetwork implementation has involved parallel effortsat hardware design, detection algorithmdevelopment, designing displays, application of afully compressible numerical model to understandinfrasound generation processes, and modelingpropagation using a 3-D acoustic ray tracingprogram.
