Austenitic stainless steels are produced by continuous casting now, especially the common 300 series. It is importance to predict the solidification characteristics of these steels. The solidification of metallic alloys results in a dendrite morphology [l1, and dendrite growth is very important for the solidification of metal alloys since this kind of arrays affect various features such as micro- and macro- segregation, porosity distribution and mechanical properties of end products. During dendrite growth, the liquid flow transports solutes, which make it hard to model this process. Especially for the solidification from a high temperature during steel continuous casting process, the interaction and competition between dendrites are difficult to be observed and the parameters, such as dendrite tip radius, growth velocity, dendrite tip temperature and solute concentration gradient, and temperature gradient in the front of S/L interface, are difficult to directly measure.
