摘要

It is well known that the variational adjoint method has been extensively applied to data assimilation in meteorology and other branches of geosciences, and also shows promising results. In this paper, we have applied the variational adjoint method to 1-D variable coefficient convection-diffusion equation in order to retrieve the initial condition and diffusion coefficient with aid of the existing observation data. From the point of view of practically numerical implementation, the corresponding discrete variational adjoint assimilation system were constructed, and several numerical experiments were consequently made. All the numerical results indicate that effect of SR is better than that of JR whether for initial condition or for diffusion coefficient.
