Geostatistics is a branch of applied statistics focusing on mathematical description and analysis of geological. Total soil nitrogen data collected in Yizheng City are analysed by means of geostatistical techniques. Exponential semivariogram models were developed by accounting for trend effects and anisotropy for total soil nitrogen in 2004. The spatial variation in the data was anisotropic and had strong spatial dependence. Total soil nitrogen in Yizheng City increased gradually from north-west to southeast in the spatial distribution map. This study demonstrated that the combination of geostatistics and GIS map calculations is an effective tool for studying spatial changes in the environment.
