Jatropha: A Perfect feedstock for Biodiesel

Seventy five to eighty five percent (75%-85%) of the cost of operating a typical biorefinery is made up of the cost of feedstock. Logically, it stands to reason that the ability to control the cost of feedstock is the key to profitability of a biodiesel refinery. However, the cost of traditional feedstocks such as soyabean oil, rapeseed oil, palm oil, canola and sunflower oil have risen in tandem with the rise in the price of crude oil-eroding the gains in competitiveness which would have accrued to biodiesel refineries.
