Carbon dioxide is considered to be the main challenge for the coal-based power generation as well as for any other industrial application of coal. Poland's energy sector is primarily based on the coal combustion that covers almost 90% of the demand. Future development of that sector depends on the restriction on the value of carbon dioxide emission or on allowances trading. Gasification with pre-combustion capture and supercritical combustion with post-combustion capture are main technological approaches to the development of new coal based generation capacity considered in Poland. The current situation in the development of demo-scale CCS projects is presented.
