The compensation system introducing Δ-connected and Y-connected compensation networks can be used to eliminate negative sequence components and zero sequence components of unbalanced load currents and improve power factor to unity. To summarize the existing achievements, this paper applied instantaneous reactive power theory to the control strategies in compensation networks to improve power factor and load balancing. Simulation models of compensation networks and unbalancing load were established by PSCAD/EMTDC. Simulation results and theoretical analysis show that the proposed combined compensation strategies can effectively balance currents and correct power factor.
