Individual cylinder's spark advance is crucial to the performance, efficiency and emissions of a multi-cylinder spark ignition engine. Through controlling knock strength of each cylinder, spark advance is regulated to an appropriate ignition angle which can cause light knock strength and high efficiency. This paper uses techniques of ASIC, programmable logic and DSC which has a CAN controller to detect knock, measure knock strength, and control spark advance. In order to temper the burden of processor, hardware logic circuit, implemented by FPGA, is used to replace part of processor's capacity. The architecture of the system enhances the reliability and stability of electronic ignition. The experiment results verify the validity of the system.
