Modeling of type-3 wind farm and investigation of fault contribution in power system

Fault contribution of wind farms is an important study and should be investigated thoroughly in order to obtain stability assessment and protection system adjustments for the connecting power grid. To investigate fault contributions of wind farms accurately, a detailed model may be used which may require high computations and long simulation time. An average model, however, can be develop to simplify the model with lower computations and shorter simulation time while maintain accuracy. In this paper average and detailed models are developed for the type-3 wind farm and compared in terms of steady and transient stats. Also, fault contribution of the type-3 wind farm is conducted using IEEE 14 bus standard system for deferent faulted stats. Also the results of average and detailed models are compared to verify the credibility of the average model in study of fault contribution of the wind farm.
