Integrating the GridSpace Virtual Laboratory with EGEE storage services

This paper presents our solution to Grid security and data access complexity — problems we have encountered in the course of integrating the GridSpace Virtual Laboratory with EGEE storage services. As the GridSpace laboratory is meant to be used by domain scientists who frequently have little knowledge of distributed computing technologies, in order to facilitate efficient exploitation of such storage technologies as LFC (LCG File Catalogue), it is necessary to integrate such storage mechanisms with popular scripting languages, used to develop virtual experiments in the e-science domain. We believe that a combination of uncomplicated interfaces, together with integration of the Grid infrastructure with prevalent dynamic languages, will facilitate the emergence of new Grid computing applications. We therefore present our approach to this subject, hoping that it will spark a discussion on how to formulate an efficient Grid programming model, usable from the perspective of a domain scientist.
