Recently, the flux-mnemonic permanent magnet brushless (FM-PMBL) motor is regarded as a promising traction motor for electric vehicles (EVs) due to its effective and efficient air-gap flux control. In this paper, the FM-PMBL motor is firstly qualitatively compared with other three types of PMBL motors for EVs, namely a traditional PMBL motor, a memory motor and a hybrid-field doubly-salient PM (HF-DSPM) motor. Then, a quantitative comparison between the FM-PMBL motor and the HF-DSPM motor is conducted based on the same dimensions and topologies. All results confirm the validity of the application of FM-PMBL motors in EVs.
