A new image encryption algorithm is proposed by combining the cat mapping and the standard mapping of conservative chaotic systems. The proposed algorithm first produces chaotic sequence by using the standard mapping; then the sequence is discretized. Two values, which are used as the parameters of the cat mapping to realize the scrambling encryption for images, are extracted. In the end, the alternative encryption for pixel values can be achieved by using two sets of discretized chaotic sequence generated from the first step. This algorithm overcomes the periodicity of using cat mapping directly to encrypt. According to analysis, the algorithm can resist statistical attack and differential attack.
