DIGITAL MANUFACTURING FOR BENDING SHIP'S PROFILE

Profile is important structural parts for ship, which include bulbs, angles and T sections. Profile forming usually uses cold bending technology by special equipment which called frame bending machine. For a long time the manufacturing process is controlled by manual and the forming shape control is based on reverse straight line even temple in shipyards. With the development of CNC frame bending machine, the process change from manual operation with low efficiency to digital manufacturing with high efficiency and quality. The paper presents the key technologies of digital profile bending process, which include CNC control model, the input data format, on-line detecting mechanism, spring-back compensation, marking mechanism, saving material method, data transfer interface. Those refer to the whole process for digital manufacturing of ship bending profile. At last the paper introduces the application of CNC frame bending machine in Chinese shipyards. Over 3 years applications practices show the digital manufacturing of ship profile is feasible and successful.
