The Empirical Research on Performance of Government Branch’s Website Based on Public Participation

As an important platform providing public service,the government branch’s website has gradually become a main way for the interaction between government and society. Since the government website is an important way for the public to participate in public affairs,the public participating function of the government websito should be strong. This paper measures the level of the public participation of government websito of Guang dong province,which is the most developed province in China. We get the marks and index of public participa tion of the government website by measuring the con tout,function and interaction of the website’s mailbox, investigation,interview,comments,forum and etc. The result shows that,fLrstly,the function of public partici pating in government website is not strong; that is to say,the website’s level of public participation is low. Secondly,there is few ways for the public to partic ipate in the websito,which makes the government be lack of interaction with the public. Finally,different government branch’s websitos differs greatly in public participation leveL Some are very high,while others are very low. In order to promote the level of public partici pation of Guangdong government branch’s websito,it is necessary to strengthen the website’s function of public participation,increase the content of public participation,and clear the government’s duty of replying the public inquiry.
