Analysis of Chinese Remainder Theorem Based Group Key Management Protocols

Zheng et al. recently proposed two new group key management protocols - the Chinese Reminder Theorem based Group Key Management protocol (CRGK) and the Fast Chinese Reminder Theorem based Group Key Management protocol (FCRGK) in order to improve the scalability of Secure Lock. In this paper, we expose the limitations of those protocols and discuss a possible improvement. In addition, we propose an Efficient Secure Lock protocol (ESL) and demonstrate that the new ESL protocol has much better performance when compared to the CRGK, FCRGK, and Secure Lock protocols, and even better performance than the well known Local Key Hierarchy protocol (LKH) when the ongoing group size is less than two thousand members, based on our simulations.
