The process of struvite precipitation as applied to waste water purification toremove ammonium ions was studied. The influence on this process of different factors, suchas pH, reagent flow mode, presence of impurities, was discovered. Crystal size distributionand crystal habit of struvite particles in suspensions obtained under different conditions wereanalyzed. Kinetic parameters of struvite reaction-crystallization processes were identifiedusing Rojkowski hyperbolic size dependent growth model. Two different mechanisms ofstruvite crystallization were found. The two-step crystallization process has proved to be themost favorable process mode for struvite precipitation providing a high struvite recovery levelas well as high-performance crystals.
