The influence of current and time charging parameters of hydrogen electrode made of active carbon on its hydrogen electrosorption capacity was investigated in a wide range of current densities (up to 36 A/g) and charging times (from several minutes to 48 h). In order to fully exploit hydrogen electrosorption capability of the carbon material, it must be highly overcharged at low Coulombic efficiency. For the investigated lignin based active carbon LAC7/3 to reach maximum capacity of ca. 585 mA h/g (equivalent of 2.17 wt% of stored hydrogen by pressure method in meaning of energy storage) overcharging up to 36 A h/g is required.
