To expand the applications of the porous carbon, great efforts have focused on the modification of porous carbon with metallic ions or dopants. High surface area hierarchically structured monolithic porous carbons doped with nanosized zinc oxide were prepared through polymerization of resorcinol with formaldehyde catalyzed by zinc acetate, followed by subcritical drying under ambient pressure and carbonization. By changing the reaction parameters, the textural parameters of porous carbon and the size of zinc oxide nanoparticles can be adjusted.
