Carbon-VN composite was prepared through carbothermal reduction of NH~(4+) intercalation vanadium xerogel at above 1000 °C under nitrogen gas flow. Carbon-VN composite prepared at 1100 °C showed reversible lithium insertion/extraction reaction at the voltage range from 0.005 to 3 V in 1 M LiBF_4 EC/DEC electrolyte, its discharge capacity at current density of 1000 mA g~(-1) being 45 mAh g~(-1) which was 41 % of the capacity at 40 mA g~(-1).
