Overall, the study demonstrated that the three-dimensionality of the pump flow is significant and an important factor in the interpretation of the fluid mechanic data. Because fluid dynamics affect the thrombogenicity of devices such as the PVAD, it is necessary to study these flows more comprehensively, especially when three-dimensionality might have an influence.
