Simultaneous C and P Removal in a Hybrid CAST Reactor

Cyclic Activated Sludge Technology (CAST) is one of the variations of SBR processes. In this study, suspended medias were introduced into the CAST reactor to increase the quantity of microorganism. Simultaneous carbon and phosphate removal performance of the hybrid CAST reactor was investigated. The experiment results demonstrate that 92–99% COD and 98% TP removal are achieved when the influent COD is 4686–5781 mg·L-1 and TP is 15–34 mg·L-1, the removal rate of COD and TP reach to 3.05–3.77 kg·m-3·d-1 and 17 g·m-3·d-1 respectively. Also the hybrid reactor displays high flexibility to short time changes of the organic loading.
