EFFECT OF SIMVASTATIN ON THE APOPTOSIS AND PERMEABILITY OF ENDOTHELIAL CELL MONOLAYERS

In this study, we tested the effect of simvastatin on the permeability of BAEC monolayers in culture under convective conditions. We found reductions in permeability that seem to be well correlated with a reduction in apoptosis rate (Figure 4). These results are in excellent agreement with a previous study performed in our lab in which the caspase inhibitor Z-VAD-FMK was used to reduce the apoptosis rate of TNFa/CHX treated monolayers [5].
